Auditor releases monthly municipal financial reports

Posted

Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick recently issued monthly reports detailing the compliance of cities and other political subdivisions with financial reporting laws.

One report includes cities, towns and villages while the other lists political subdivisions such as water, fire protection and other taxing districts. The entities are required to file annual financial reports with the State Auditor's Office within six months of the end of their fiscal year.

While no municipalities were required to file any documents by Jan. 31 because none have a fiscal year ending July 31, 66 such entities did file a financial report, addendum or certification after a deadline had passed. Of these, 52 filed a financial report, 22 filed a municipal court addendum and seven filed a certification of compliance with municipal court procedures.

The City of Alton filed its financial report on Jan. 29, but did not file a municipal court addendum; it was not required to file court certification. Likewise, the City of Summersville filed its financial report Jan. 17, but did not file an addendum and was not required to file certification. Those documents were due Dec. 31, 2023, the auditor’s office noted.

A total of 31 nonmunicipal political subdivisions were required to submit financial reports by Jan. 31 for fiscal years ending July 31. None were local.
