100 Deadliest Days of Summer

Posted

The "100 Deadliest Days of Summer" are designated as the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. These days cover the summer travel season and are historically a deadly time on our nation's roadways.
Preliminary reports show that during last year's "100 Deadliest Days of Summer," there were 368 fatalities and 1,722 serious injuries on Missouri roadways.
As MoDOT continues to work toward their goal of zero roadway fatalities, they urge all who travel in and around the Show-Me State this summer to buckle up, put the cellphone down, slow down and never drive while impaired. Whether driving through a work zone, sharing the road with motorcyclists or cruising around city streets with pedestrians in the area, slowing down and paying attention can help save lives.

MoDOT also wants to remind motorists to never leave a child or pet alone in a car. When temperatures are warm, cars quickly get hot inside and heatstroke can happen fast!
Travel safely this summer, and know before you go! Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map to be prepared for what work zones you might encounter.
With these simple actions, you can help ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of each day.
