A widespread power outage Friday afternoon in West Plains was caused when a vehicle struck a utility pole and knocked a power line loose, which in turn sparked a grass and brush fire at the West Plains Solid Waste Transfer Station on Old Airport Road and took three substations offline, say city officials.
The outage, which began shortly after 2 p.m., resulted in 3,919 utility customers without power across the city.
Once the fire was extinguished, city electric crews began work to restore power, with all power back online by 7 p.m., according to city officials.
