Several area cemeteries are planning cleanup days and Decoration Day activities:
Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, a cleanup day will be held at Hebron Cemetery in Viola, Ark.
A Decoration Day celebration will be held May 18 with a potluck dinner at noon. A Hebron Cemetery Association meeting will follow at 1 p.m.
To get to the cemetery from West Plains, take U.S. 160 west to E Highway at South Fork and turn left. Follow the road south about 36 miles; it will become Arkansas Highway 223 at the state line and pass through Viola about 6.5 miles before the turnoff to the cemetery, Finch Road. Turn right onto Finch road and continue 1.8 miles to Hebron Church Road. The cemetery will be on the left.
Donations are sought to help with mowing and cemetery upkeep and to honor those buried there, including numerous veterans, said officials. Mail contributions to Hebron Cemetery c/o Max Williams, 4867 N. Arkansas Highway 9, Brockwell, AR 72517.
Dripping Springs Cemetery will hold its annual cleanup day and annual meeting at the cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Volunteers are needed for mowing, weed-eating and general cleanup of the cemetery. A potluck lunch will be served; bring a covered dish to share.
In case of inclement weather, a rain date will be held at the same time May 17.
The Dripping Springs Cemetery is located 6 miles north of West Plains at the end of BB Highway.

The Homeland Cemetery Association will have a work day at 9 a.m May 17.
The annual meeting will be at 10 a.m. May 24, also at the cemetery.
The cemetery is located on County Road 6310, off West U.S. 160. Anyone interested in the cemetery upkeep is urged to attend.
Donations for maintenance costs will be accepted at the meeting or may be mailed to Melva Johnson, 4163 State Route AB, West Plains, MO 65775.
Families and friends are invited to the annual cemetery meeting May 21 at the Akers Cemetery on KK Highway in Shannon County.
A potluck or “pitch in” lunch will be served at noon and the meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery may be mailed to Judy Maggard Stewart, 19159 MO-19, Eminence, MO 65466.
