Community project proposal: Peace poles

Posted

To the editor:

We are still not really familiar with West Plains, or even everyone living in our neighborhood, since we are older retired folk and sometimes have health problems that come with aging.

There is something of concern to me in this area, this county, this state, this country, this world due to the disunity being seemingly promoted  to divide us from one another.

What if our community were to start a community project?

Thinking about The Peace Pole Project and how it could bring everyone together for a community event.

One can be bought from this: www.worldpeace.org/peacepoleproject or this: www.peacepoleproject.org site.

Or, one could be made.

There could be a fundraiser for purchasing a ready-made one, or materials for making one, a contest if one were made for what to put on it, a contest for designs after that to put on it. If schools were involved, the children would be involved.

Those overseeing public or city property could make a decision where it could be put.

The schools could have a band present and the whole town invited for the dedication.

The churches, organizations, senior center, etc. also could be involved.

Since we are old, thinking of how our youth needs to take this up to promote, since they are the future and so many are concerned if there will be one.

Please share with anyone you think might like this idea.
