Crash leads to boil advisory in W.P.

Posted

The city of West Plains has issued a boil water advisory to several businesses in the area of Mitchell Road after a traffic crash damaged a fire hydrant.

Affected addresses are 1324 Mitchell Road, 1401 to 1411 Mitchell Road, 1805 Bruce Smith Parkway and 1411 to 1449 Preacher Roe Boulevard. Among the businesses impacted are The Farmer’s Wife, the shopping strip that includes Westlake Ace Hardware to Factory Connection and the business strip that includes O’Reilly Auto Parts to Los Amigos Restaurant.

The advisory is the result of low water pressure that occurred after the hydrant was damaged, said city officials, adding that it was issued due to concern that a problem with drinking water may exist, but no problem has yet been confirmed.

Advisories are most commonly issued for major water main breaks or other low-pressure events where the possibility of contamination intrusion exists, officials said, adding they may also be issued while waiting for results of confirmation samples collected for bacteriological analysis, which can take up to two days plus the time required to transport samples to the laboratory.

Water samples have been sent to the state for testing.
