Noon Rotary holds cruise giveaway drawing

The West Plains Noon Rotary Club is holding a fundraising giveaway drawing to aid in the club’s Backpack Program, which provides meals for school children on long weekends and over school breaks.

Tickets are available to win a grand prize of a cruise and flights for two, with proceeds going directly to help children in need through the backpack program, said organizers.

“This is a great way to give back and have a chance at an unforgettable vacation,” said Rotary President Lana Snodgras. “Every ticket sold helps us continue our mission of serving kids in need.”

Tickets can be purchased at www.rafflecreatorcom/pages/45929/noon-rotary-cruise-fundraser-raffle.

Howell County Commission to meet

The Howell County Commission will hold its semiweekly session at 10 a.m. Monday, with two appointments scheduled, the agenda shows.

At 11 a.m. Howell County Emergency Management Director will meet with commissioners to discuss a grant, and at 1 p.m. Howell County Collector Janet Crow will present her annual settlement for the commission to review and consider approving.

Also on the agenda is the approval of February tax adjustments.

Commissioners will approve accounts payable that may be presented and recognize guests in attendance.

The commission typically meets each Monday and Thursday in the conference room on the second floor of the county office building, 35 Court Square in West Plains. The public is welcome.

WPHS announces prom date change

West Plains High School will hold its prom from 7 to 10 p.m. May 10 at Rubydoo’s Vintage Events, 9240 County Road 9090, in a change of date announced by Principal Ryan Smith.

The dance was originally planned for May 3, but was rescheduled after consideration of scheduling conflicts and in an effort to prevent students from choosing between significant school events. The Missouri High School Activities Association calendar shows the State Music Festival will be held May 3, and the school’s athletics calendar shows Lady Zizzer Soccer will play an away game in Camdenton that day, and individual tennis District matches will be held.

Survey results from teachers, juniors and seniors, and the students’ parents showed the majority to be in favor of the date change, Smith noted.
