John Edgeller memorial held

Posted 9/23/22

Soldier, father, husband, and citizen, John Edgeller is remembered by family members as a man who made an impact on their lives and the community as a whole. He moved from Omaha, Neb., where he was living when he was drafted for WWII. He was right out of high school, and Charlene said he told the story of receiving his draft letter, which read in part “you have been recommended for service by your friends and neighbors.” Her grandfather claimed he sat on his porch, the letter in hand that was most likely identical to the one every draftee received, and looked around wondering “which one of those son of a bitches did that?” That was 1944, on his 18th birthday, June 16.
