Lady Zizzers serve up roasted Bluejay

Posted

For the ninth time in the last decade, the West Plains High School Lady Zizzers basketball team will compete in the District Championship after they fired up the grill, plucked the feathers off the Marshfield Bluejays, and cooked them over the coals with a 66-42 defeat in the semifinals round.

“We’re looking good right now. Everybody has stepped up and doing their jobs on both ends of the court,” said Zizzers Head Coach Scott Womack. “We just have to keep it up. We have to be aggressive, physical and keep our heads in the game every second of the next four games.”

Four Lady Zizzers made it to double figures in scoring.

Ashton Judd led the way with 23 points, Zoey Williams and Allyssa Joyner each had 11.

“Zoey brings such a great spark to the team, she’s so tough and physical. She’s been an important comment to our success,” said Coach Womack.

Kaylea Dixon, who has had a hot hand from 3-point territory all season had 10. Olivia Lawson returned from injury and put 8 points on the board. Georgia Osborn, who has proved herself to be a crucial element in every game, finished with 3 points.

The Lady Zizzers will play for the District Championship at 6 p.m. Friday in Marshfield.
