The West Plains R-7 School Board has hired Lucas Brown as the high school principal for the 2022-23 school year beginning July 1, following the promotion of current high school principal Matthew Orchard to Director of Human Resources and Student Services, also effective July 1.

Brown has served as Glenwood School principal since 2019, and had previously served as a teacher and assistant principal at Thayer Schools, according to a news release provided by R-7 Communications and Community Relations Director Lana Snodgras.

"The West Plains School District has much to celebrate with the recent hiring of new leadership. I am excited to welcome Mr. Brown to the leadership team,” said incoming superintendent Dr. Wesley Davis. “He will be a great asset to the West Plains High School, students and staff. Our interview team unanimously recommended him, and the board unanimously approved his contract.”

Brown holds an Educational Leadership Specialist degree from Arkansas State University. His bachelor's degree is in Social Science from Missouri State University. He also earned a Master of Science in Education Administration from Missouri State University.

Glenwood Superintendent Wayne Stewart said interviews for principal of the K-8 school are underway, and he will make a recommendation to the district’s school board at its meeting Tuesday. The position must be filled July 1.

“Lucas was fabulous, and we hate to lose him, and it came at a bad time for us, but we respect him and understand this is an opportunity for him,” Stewart commented.

Orchard replaces Davis in the directorial role; Davis was named district superintendent effective July 1 after outgoing Superintendent Dr. Lori Wilson took a job as an interim superintendent for the Ozark R-6 School District.

Wilson began her administrative career in 2009 as Ozark High School assistant principal before moving on to become principal of Nixa Junior High, then assistant principal for Aurora R-8 School District in Lawrence County, and from Aurora to West Plains District superintendent, filling that job for four years.

In addition to being director of Human Resources and Student Services, Davis was also acting as the district’s assistant superintendent, and Dr. Amy Ross was appointed to the position this month. She had served as special services coordinator since 2013.
