Man lying on railroad tracks killed by train

A Pomona man died after being struck by a train as he was lying on the railroad tracks at 10:45 p.m. Monday, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Msgt. S.N. Foster with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported that Edward L. Morris, 31, was lying on the railroad tracks north of County Road 5320, five miles south of Willow Springs, when a 2017 General Electric ES44CA locomotive owned by BNSF Railways struck him. The train was undamaged and driven from the scene, and the driver, Steven F. Davis, 56, of Springfield, was unhurt, Foster reported.

Howell County Coroner Tim Cherry pronounced Morris dead at 10:45 p.m. at the scene.

The death marks the 15th traffic fatality this year in the nine-county Troop G area, compared to 17 in the same time frame in 2021.
