Below are several upcoming events at Missouri State University-West Plains, many of which are open to the community. Feel free to clip this calendar and keep it for your reference to make sure you don’t miss any events that might interest you. Also listed are several important dates on the university’s calendar that area residents might want to keep in mind.

            Feb. 25 – “Lincoln School’s Legacy of Service: Honoring Soldiers from WWI to the Gulf War” presentation by Crockett Oaks III, 6 p.m., Ozarks Heritage Research Center (OHRC) in the Garnett Library, 304 W.             Feb. 25 – Grizzly Basketball vs. Moberly Area Community College, 7 p.m., West Plains Civic Center arena.

            Feb. 26 – High school music solo and ensemble preview session hosted by the Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) music program, 2 to 6 p.m., Melton Hall on the MSU-WP campus. Open to all high school students, both vocal and instrumentalist. Students can sign up for a 15-minute spot and practice their performance on campus in a similar environment as the MSHSAA festival.             Feb. 26 – 2025 African American Read In event featuring readings from the award-winning novel “James” by Percival Everett, 6 p.m., OHRC inside the Garnett Library, 304 W. Trish Knight St., West Plains. hosted by the OHRC, West Plains Council on the Arts and West Plains Public Library. “James” is a re-imagining of Mark Twain’s novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Guest presenter is Ozarks historian Vincent Anderson, Mtn.             Feb. 27 – Career Fair, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Student Recreation Center, 323 W. Trish Knight St., West Plains. This free event is open to community members who are seeking employment.             Feb. 27 – Grizzly Softball vs. Arkansas State University-Newport, 2 and 4 p.m., Hilburn Sports Complex adjacent to the West Plains High School parking lot.

            Feb. 28 – Annual welding contest for area high school students hosted by the Workforce Development and Community Education Office at the Pace Industrial Science Center, 218 W. Broadway, West Plains. Check in at 8 a.m.; contest begins at 9 a.m. Call 417-255-7788 or email TrevorCressman@MissouriState.edu for more information.

            March 1 – Grizzly Baseball vs. Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, noon and 2 p.m., Zizzer Field on Howell Avenue across from West Plains High School.

            March 8 – Grizzly Softball vs. Three Rivers College, 2 and 4 p.m., Hilburn Sports Complex adjacent to the West Plains High School parking lot.
