Patrol Water Division reports first drowning of 2022

A 48-year-old man drowned while floating overnight on the Current River, marking this year’s first drowning fatality in Troop G, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Division.

Cpl. J.M. Heimsoth with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported that Dee A. Hodges, of Wichita, Kan., had gone missing overnight Aug. 1 while floating on the Current River, and his body was found at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday, downriver at Cave Spring.

Shannon County Coroner Sam Murphy pronounced Hodges dead at 1 p.m. Cpl. L.B. Monahan also assisted at the scene.

One drowning had likewise been reported at this time last year in the nine-county Troop G area.
