At about 8:17 a.m. Thursday, West Plains police officers was notified that a 2018 Gray Dodge Durango had been stolen from behind a business on the 1000 block of West Broadway.

The owner of the car reportedly was getting out of her vehicle after arriving at work when she was approached by two men brandishing firearms, according to Officer Conner Burnes with the West Plains police.

The men allegedly demanded the woman give them her vehicle key and her cell  phone, then told her to get on the ground as they left in her car.

The cell phone was later found on John North Wiles Drive, said Burnes.

The Howell County Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State  Highway Patrol, the Hardy (Ark.) Police Department and The Lawrence County (Ark.) Sheriff’s  Department were all notified of the theft and vehicle description.

A brief time later, said Burnes, officials with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department notified West Plains police that they vehicle was seen in their jurisdiction and officers were in pursuit.

The two were subsequently  arrested and the vehicle was recovered.

As of press time, the vehicle’s condition is unknown, and the identity of the suspects will be released later, said Burnes.  A police investigation unit is traveling from West Plains to Lawrence County to follow up on the investigation, he added.

According to Burnes, there is no additional threat or alarm for the citizens of West Plains.
