The regular monthly meeting of the West Plains R-7 School Board will be held beginning 5 p.m. Tuesday at the West Plains High School library with a closed session to discuss possible personnel, student, legal and real estate issues.
The meeting will then be opened to the public at 5:30 p.m. It is also available for viewing live on Zoom, meeting identification number 990 3428 1867 and passcode 274347.
First on the agenda for the open session are new staff introductions and a West Plains Middle School student spotlight.
The meeting will then move on to consent agenda items, including the approval of minutes from previous meetings, the presentation of the monthly finance report and approval of staffing changes and program evaluations.
Payment of bills is scheduled as a regular agenda item, then board members will revisit an update on the district's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) under previous business.
New business items include the declaration of surplus property from Southern Missouri Technical Institute (SMTI, formerly South Central Career Center), the adoption of a local compliance plan for special education, and the approval of an Ozarks Healthcare affiliation agreement with the Students Working at Transition (S.W.A.T.) work experience program, a memorandum of understanding between the district and the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater West Plains area, and finalized bus routes for the current school year.
Other new business includes a review of and update to the district wellness program, the approval of a cash basis accounting method beginning July 1, 2024, a Missouri School Board Association policy update, and a vote on joining the BuyBoard National Purchasing Cooperative.
Updates and reports to the board will be presented by each of the school building administrators and Superintendent Dr. Wes Davis. Board members will also hear reports pertaining to the public relations and communications department; facilities, human resources, security and capital projects; teaching and learning; and federal programs and special education.
The open session meeting will then adjourn and the board will return to closed session if needed to finish earlier discussion.
The next regular monthly meeting will be held Oct. 17.
