SUMMERSVILLE BOOKENDS

Posted

We’re preparing for our Summer Reading 2022 Program “Oceans of Possibilities” and sponsor request letters have already been sent out to many of our local businesses. If you didn’t receive a letter but would like to help us in providing this program for our children during June and July, either monetarily or with donations of services, please contact the library.

Each gift is appreciated, and no gift is too small.

As we attempt to return to normal activities at Summersville Library, we hope to have our annual Cowboy Roundup on Saturday, May 7. This event is usually held in June, but that scheduling conflicts with our Summer Reading Program this year.

If you have a docile farm/ranch animal to show or a talent such as roping, rodeo clowning, square dancing, or a western craft to share, contact Kathie at Summersville Branch Library. We’ll also have our Cutest Cowgirl and Cutest Cowboy contest again for those under 12 years old, so there’s still time to prepare for that.

Even though we’re occasionally having spring-like weather now, there’s still a possibility of the library being closed on a day that might be hazardous for travel. Be safe and phone ahead to make sure we’re open for business.

As Memorial Day draws near, Memorial books are a thoughtful way to honor our friends or loved ones who are no longer with us. If interested in doing this for a special person, inquire at any of our branch libraries. It’s truly a gift that keeps on giving to others.

Parties interested in taking a tour of our historic Summersville mill may contact the Summersville Library during business hours to schedule a time, but be advised there is no heat in the mill. Please stop by the library or call 417-932-5261 during business hours.

The Summersville Friends of the Library meet the second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. inside Summersville Library. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 11 at 5 p.m. as we finalize plans for a plant & book sale and Cowboy Roundup.

There’s never a charge for library activities, thanks to the Friends and Texas County Library, but you can show your appreciation by attending the Friends’ monthly meetings and being a part of this service to our community.

New members are invited to join this active group in supporting and participating in the continuing growth of the Summersville Branch Library. The Friends’ Facebook page can be found by entering “Summersville Friends of the Library.”

Current safety guidelines for Summersville Branch: Staff will continue to sanitize books as they’re returned to the book return table, and computers will be wiped down after each user.

Any Texas County Library branch is your one-stop-shop for printing, copies, fax or free scanning to an email address in addition to our other services. We’re so much more than just a library these days.
