The Quill has learned the victim of a fatal car accident on Tuesday, first reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol as an adult man, is a 6-year-old boy.

The online crash report has been corrected and it was explained to the Quill by patrol officials the child's date of birth was unknown at the time the crash report was posted, and the victim was automatically listed as an adult.

Tpr. S.A. Swink, with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported the crash happened at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday on east U.S. 60 at Highway 19 in Winona, when a northbound 2007 Chevrolet Uplander driven by a 77-year-old man from Alton traveled into the path of a westbound 2014 Ford Edge driven by an 18-year-old man from Eminence.

The child was reportedly a passenger in the Chevrolet and wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m. at the scene by Shannon County Coroner Allen Ford.

It was the first fatal crash in Troop G for 2025, compared to none at this time last year.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries, and was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Swink reported.

The driver of the Ford suffered moderate injuries and a 16-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries. Both were reportedly wearing seat belts and taken by St. Francis Ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains for treatment. The driver suffered moderate injuries and the passenger suffered minor injuries, the report shows.

Swink was assisted at the scene by Cpl. M. Barron, Sgt. C.A. Kimes, Tpr. E.C. Minge, Msgt. T.W. Meyer, Tpr. T.D. Pond, Cpl. N.A. Frazier, Tpr. D.B. Howell, crash team member D.A. Yingling and the Winona Fire Department.
