‘What we are doing is for all of us’

Posted

To the editor:

I am an 85-year-old woman who will be on the street April 5, protesting the government that – despite its denials – intends to take away my monthly Social Security check. I will be joined by thousands across our country to also protest the government that threatens to weaken or take away our schools, our hospitals and healthcare, our parks and weather-warning systems, and the hope our children and grandchildren will have clean air to breathe and safe water to drink.

We chose our members of Congress in Washington to represent us. Now many have lost interest in that, and focus on not being “primaried” and losing their jobs. They fail to realize we are all in the same, sinking boat when it comes to losses.

To those members of Congress I say, “Join us on the streets as we wave our signs, because you, too, have lost your value.” The Trump government does not “need” a legislative branch.

It is dangerous to be a protester these days. So when you see us as you drive by, honk your horns and wave. What we are doing is for all of us.

What is being taken away is something Americans never could imagine they would lose.
