Short, born Bunyard, a proud West Plains High School graduate from the class of 1976, brought her solo performance of “Newlywed Widow” to the delight of her old friends and new fans. “I am delighted to be invited to bring my Solo Performance of “Newlywed Widow” to West Plains and I can’t wait to see all my old friends. Thank you to Crockett Oaks for his enthusiasm in bringing this production to fruition. It has been many years since I’ve been back to West Plains and I look forward to reconnecting with my old friends while making new friends, too!” Beverly shared with a smile. more

In a remarkable achievement, 18 students from His Place Christian Academy have become published authors through a national student publishing program. As part of this exciting journey, second and third-grade students from the classes of Crystal Verrall and Rhonda Norman planned, wrote, and illustrated their own books through a free publishing program offered by Studentreasures Publishing. The culmination of their creative efforts is titled Fabulous Fictional Fun, a collection that showcases their imaginative storytelling and artistic talents. more
When 15-year-old Amanda Jane Cooper saw Wicked on Broadway, she immediately wanted to play the role of Glinda. She enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University to study theatre. Within months of graduating, she won the role of Glinda in the show’s traveling production. Amid phenomenal success, however, she developed an eating disorder, frequently not eating during the day and binge eating alone in the wee hours of the morning. The struggling actress began carelessly sharing her body with strangers, putting herself in extremely dangerous situations. Though applauded by millions, Cooper hated herself. more

As I write this, my Mother's Day is winding down, actually it's been a weekend of family, good food and remanisisting.  When your Mother is no longer with you, holidays are more important, to keep the lost alive in our thoughts and memories and one way to do that is with food. My Mom was a Mum, born and raised in England. She came to the states in her late 20's, alone, to find work. She lived through a time of war, where everything was rationed so there wasn't much for desserts but one English dish lives on with me. The English Trifle was once a basic recipe of lady fingers, pudding, cream and fruit all layered and chilled to blend the flavors. Now, there are so many ways to prepare trifles that I hope the original doesn't ever get lost. One modern version sure caught my eye so I thought I'd share it this week, in honor of my Mum and my English roots this Mother's day. I hope your Mother's Day was everything you wanted plus dessert!  more
