The top-seeded West Plains Lady Zizzers opened the Class 4 District 6 softball tournament on Friday afternoon with a first-round matchup against host Logan-Rogersville.

Because the match began after press time, results were not available. The winner of Friday’s contest will advance to the second round to face the winner of the Marshfield-Hillcrest matchup at 2 p.m. today.

The other four teams competing in the district tournament are Willard, Parkview, Rolla and Lebanon. The championship match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.

Lady Zizzers rout Hillcrest

Oct. 7: West Plains 16, Hillcrest 1

The West Plains Lady Zizzers dominated Hillcrest 16-1 on Oct. 7, scoring seven runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to seal the rout.

West Plains collected 10 hits in the win. Remini Williams highlighted the offense with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Williams and Gracie Young finished with three RBIs apiece, while Williams, Young and Bailey Wake each recorded two hits.

The Zizzers drew five walks, stole eight bases and played error-free defense behind pitcher Roxie Bryant. Bryant earned the win in the circle, allowing just one run on five hits over four innings.

“Remini Williams provided one of the biggest moments of the game with a two-run home run in the fourth inning,” West Plains assistant coach Madalyn Ivy said. “The Zizzers also played a clean defensive game without committing an error.”

Mules slip past Zizzers in scoring frenzy

Oct. 5: Poplar Bluff 16, West Plains 14

Earlier in the week, the Lady Zizzers dropped a high-scoring 16-14 slugfest to the Poplar Bluff Mules on Monday, Oct. 5.

West Plains tallied 13 hits, matching Poplar Bluff’s offensive output. The Lady Zizzers rallied to take an 11-8 lead in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Aubrey Ellison. However, Poplar Bluff answered with an eight-run surge in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead for good.

Sloane McNett and Young led West Plains with three hits each. Young and Bella Bridges both drove in two runs, and the team stole four bases.

“Despite the loss, West Plains showed a lot of fight throughout the game and continued to compete until the final out,” Ivy said.
