Competing with just two swimmers and a diver, the West Plains Zizzers boys team finished seventh out of 15 teams at the Sedalia Invitational, highlighted by a record-breaking performance on the diving board.
The Zizzers fielded only two of the six swimmers on their roster because several athletes were taking the ACT, according to West Plains Head Coach Ryan Smith.
“Our diver, Chance Bradfute, stepped up and swam a leg of each relay so that we could enter relays,” Smith said.
Bradfute also made history in his primary event, breaking the school record for 1-meter diving (11 dives) with a personal-best score of 312.45. The effort earned him a second-place medal and bested the previous school record of 301.90 set last year by Caleb Kentner.
In the swimming events, Rhys Kerley placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:05.16. Kerley also took second in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a season-best 5:35.54.
Alec Morrison added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.00, and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:03.72.
