FYI
Turn clocks back one hour on Sunday
This Sunday marks the end of daylight saving time, observed on the first Sunday of November each year.
Clocks are set back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, granting an extra hour of sleep.
When turning clocks back, fire safety officials urge residents to check the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Batteries in smoke detectors should be replaced yearly, and alarms that are 10 years old or older should be replaced entirely as sensors degrade over time.
The seasonal shift also serves as a reminder for families to review and practice emergency home escape plans, take unwanted or expired medications to a community prescription drop box, and refresh household first-aid kits.
Thomasville Christmas Bazaar returns Thursday
The 10th annual Thomasville Christmas Bazaar will take place Thursday through Nov. 7 at the Thomasville Community Center, 134 Old St. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 7.
The bazaar offers indoor and outdoor holiday decor, including wreaths, centerpieces, antique collectibles, handmade wooden crafts and commercial items. Display trees of all sizes — including two 12-foot trees — will be featured alongside handcrafted Santas and snowmen.
Chili, soup, desserts and beverages will be available for purchase daily.
Event organizers noted this year’s bazaar will honor the memory of longtime volunteer Brenda Bell, who helped establish the annual event following the historic 2017 floods that damaged the community center.
Two quilts will be given away at the conclusion of the event: one handcrafted by community members and a second donated by a local supporter. Donation tickets are available in advance at the Thomasville Restaurant and the Thomasville Library, as well as onsite during the bazaar. The drawing will take place Saturday shortly before the bazaar closes.
