The community is invited to help construct 100 5-foot Christmas swags to decorate Mtn. View during a three-day volunteer workshop beginning Nov. 30. The Community Swag Workshop will be held at the Mtn. View Community Center, 125 W. First St. Work begins at 1 p.m. Nov. 30, and continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2. For 30 years, the greenery-laden decorations have been hung across the city in December. This year’s event is sponsored by the city of Mtn. View, the Chamber of Commerce, Mtn. View Community Betterment and the Mtn. View Garden Club. During the workshop, volunteers will trim donated pine, cedar and holly branches and bundle them onto the swags with twine and zip ties before city workers hang them around town. Garden club members will provide coffee, pastries and lunch for the volunteers. Organizers are seeking donations of pine, cedar and holly, as well as financial sponsors to help offset the cost of heavy-duty zip ties, twine and volunteer meals. Volunteers who can spare an hour or more are asked to bring their own labeled gloves, loppers, pruners, scissors and pliers.
