Firefighters deploy a ladder truck to douse flames and heavy smoke at a home at 409 Johnson St. on Friday afternoon. The official incident report shows crews from all three West Plains fire stations responded to the call. Firefighters initially entered the home to extinguish the blaze around 2:15 p.m., but were forced to evacuate after finding damaged natural gas lines that could not immediately be shut off. Once gas service was secured, firefighters reentered the home to finish putting out the fire. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with damage to the structure and its contents estimated at $95,000. Responding agencies included the West Plains Police Department, South Howell County Ambulance and Howell Rural Fire District No. 1. (Kimberly Langston/WPDQ)
