A pair from West Plains and three children in their vehicle were involved in a fatal crash in rainy weather at 5:11 p.m. Sunday in rural Sharp County, Ark., the Arkansas State Police reported.

Deceased is Shaundra Johnson, 31, Batesville, Ark., reported Tpr. First Class Quinton Maag with Troop B of the state police, Jonesboro.

Maag reported Colten Boyd, 34, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet south on U.S. 167 in the direction of Cave City, Ark., when an oncoming vehicle, a 2016 Toyota driven by Johnson and heading toward Evening Shade, Ark., crossed over the center line and into the Chevrolet’s path, causing the vehicles to collide head-on.

A boy who was a passenger in Johnson’s vehicle survived with injuries, as did the occupants of the Chevrolet, who included passengers Emily Boyd, 30, of West Plains, and two girls and a boy, the report shows.

Identifying information about children is not publicized in reports due to state laws protecting the privacy of minors.

All six of the injured were taken to White River Medical Center in Batesville, and Johnson’s remains were taken to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
