An immigrant’s perspective on securing the border

Posted

To the editor:

I came to the USA as a legal immigrant back in 1961. I was thoroughly vetted and every year had to register with the post office so my location, etc. was noted. How quaint that sounds now when illegal immigrants are let loose to go wherever they want and nobody keeps track. Also we had to sign papers that prevented us from using taxpayers’ money, so no visa cards, etc., for us back then.

That is how it should be; I respected this country and was proud to become an American citizen.

Also having lived in California for 24 years, I saw all the pitfalls of too many illegal immigrants. Some lived in the U.S. for many years and still don't speak English. Also I saw the way they were treated, business owners taking advantage of them.

Maybe I sound like an irritable old lady, but it will be to the detriment to this country to not secure the borders and put Americans first.

This is happening in a few European countries and many are regretting their push for diversity and inclusion.
