Posted

Ozarks Healthcare will host a free community education dinner focused on stroke awareness, prevention and treatment at 6 p.m. May 28.

The event will be held in the Willard Hunter Classroom at the Parkway Center, located at 1211 Porter Wagoner Blvd. in West Plains.

Dr. Clara Applegate, a neurologist at Ozarks Healthcare, will lead the discussion. She will cover important stroke-related topics, including how to recognize warning signs, understanding risk factors, the critical need for rapid emergency care and advancements in stroke treatments available locally.

While stroke is a leading cause of disability and death, timely treatment and education can significantly improve patient outcomes. Attendees will learn how lifestyle choices, preventative care and symptom awareness can help reduce the risk of stroke and improve long-term health.

Applegate, who provides specialized neurological care at the hospital, focuses on helping patients better understand neurological conditions and the importance of early intervention.

The hospital system recently earned Primary Stroke Center Certification, which recognizes its commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based stroke care.

The event is open to the public and will include a meal, educational information and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and connect with health care providers.
