A man from Lakeview, Ark., died in a crash at 3 a.m. Saturday on Highway 5, five miles south of Wasola in Ozark County, reported the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Joseph L. Kish, 42, Lakeview, was driving south when his 2013 Chevrolet Cruze crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2008 Lincoln MKZ sedan driven by Justin S. Ivey, 44, Mtn. Home, Ark., according to Tpr. L.S. Elliot with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs.

Ozark County Coroner Gene Britt pronounced Kish dead at 3:45 a.m. at the scene.

The driver of the Mazda suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Ozark County Ambulance to Baxter Health in Mtn. Home, the report shows. It is not known wither Ivey wore a seat belt; Kish reportedly did not.

The death is the 42nd and final traffic fatality recorded for 2023 in the nine-county Troop G area, compared to 32 in the same time frame the previous year.

Elliot was assisted at the scene by Gainesville Fire Department, Ozark County Sheriff’s Office and patrol Crash Team member Cpl. T.L. Wright.
