Boil advisory lifted for most of W.P.

Posted

The citywide boil water advisory has been lifted, city officials announced Thursday afternoon. However, residents on 1400 block of Seventh Street remain under a boil advisory.

The continued advisory is the result of a water main break that occurred Tuesday on Utah Street.

The initial advisory was issued as a result of a water main break Monday morning off of south Highway 17.

For those still under the precautionary advisory, water used for the preparation of food and beverages should first be boiled for at least two minutes due to the possibility of compromised water quality. Residents should also not use water or ice from dispensers on home refrigerators, or from automatic ice machines at locations like restaurant or convenience store dispensers.

With one of the city’s six wells that provide water to the treatment plant out of commission, water conservation continues to be encouraged. Leading by example, the city announced Thursday after noon that it is limiting the watering of city properties, and in some cases stopping altogether. Such properties include city hall, the sports complex, and the North Terra Golf Course.

At the golf course, the front nine holes will continue to be watered for the time being, as irrigation there is done without using city water, officials explained.

In addition to those efforts, city vehicles will not be washed, and the splash pad will be open for reduced hours during the peak heat of the day, from 3 to 7 p.m. beginning today.
