Gary Cope of West Plains, at left, looks over the ballot at the West Plains Public Library, polling location during Tuesday’s primary elections. Among the local measures on the ballot, West Plains voters are deciding on a proposed 1% city sales tax increase. If approved, the measure would double the city's current 1% sales tax to 2%, generating an estimated $4 million annually in permanent general revenue. City officials intend to use the funds initially to to build a proposed $14 million to $15 million indoor sports complex, with remaining revenue available for public safety, infrastructure and parks. As of noon about 125 voters had cast ballots at library. Election judges assisting Cope are, seated from left, Rosemary Hendon, Pam Thomas and David Kirk. Watch the Quill online and in print on Saturday for election results.
