ONGOING

Through June 28 (7 a.m.-4 p.m.) Ozarks Healthcare will offer sports physicals for area kindergarten through eighth grade students on weekdays at the Zizzer Clinic, 1013 College St. Walk-ins are available but appointments are encouraged. On June 20 only, clinic hours will be extended to 7 p.m. to accommodate those with busy schedules.

Through June 28: Ozark Artery is accepting entries to its Conversation Starters art show. All mediums are welcome, but 3-D and interactive works are preferred. Artworks should inspire conversations or social interaction. There is no entry fee and each artist may submit up to three works. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three placers. The show will be exhibited at the Yellow House with an artist reception from 4-6 p.m. July 13, during which time winners will be announced. Visit “Ozark Artery” on Facebook for full details.

Through June 30 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) Angela Bullard’s artwork will be featured on the first floor of OzSBI, 408 Washington Ave., in an exhibit sponsored through a partnership between the incubator and the West Plains Council on the Arts. The show is an eclectic assortment of Bullard’s work, from needle-felted landscapes to encaustic florals to acrylic abstracts.

Through June 30 (9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays) The West Plains Council on the Arts partners with the West Plains Public Library, 750 @ W. Broadway to bring art to the community. Photography from Marc Brannan will be on display.

Through Aug. 31: McDonald’s and the West Plains Public Library are partnering for Happy McReaders. Children younger than 17 may pick up a punch card at the library, 750 W. Broadway, and receive a free Happy Meal from a West Plains McDonalds for every 10 punches on their card.

TODAY

June 27 (6-7:30 p.m.) Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona will host Nature Art: Pine Needlers for the first of a 12-month series dedicated to embroidering and learning about Missouri’s Wildflowers. By signing up, participants are committing to attend all 12 sessions to complete 15 blocks for an entire quilt. A virtual session will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on this date for those who cannot attend in person. Registration required. FRIDAY

June 28 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) The City of West Plains will host a workshop at city hall for those interested in learning more about securing permits for construction work, including new and replacement electrical, HVAC and plumbing work, as well as structural work.

June 28 (6:30 p.m.) Trivia Night (answer sheet format) at Wages Brewing Company 1382 Bill Virdon Blvd. in East Towne Village Shopping Center. There is a $5 buy-in per player for prizes, otherwise free to play.

SATURDAY

June 29 (8-11 a.m.) Sleep in Heavenly Peace will host a Build Day at 205 Trish Knight St., Suite 205. The nonprofit builds beds for children in need. Those interested in volunteering may call David Ball, 417-274-1469.

June 29 (8:30 a.m.) Check-in begins for the Zizzer Tennis fundraiser Pickle Ball Tournament at the “old” tennis courts at West Plains High School. Play begins at 9 a.m. and brackets will be posted two days prior. There will be four divisions: under 18, 18-plus, 35-plus and 55-plus; doubles teams only. Cost is $20 per play. June 29 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) Willow Springs Farmers Market will be held at Booster Field in Willow Springs.

June 29 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) Cedarhurst of West Plains, 1521 U.S. 63, will host Classic Cars and Cobblers, a car show with homemade cobbler desserts. The public is welcome to the free event. Tours of the facility and community will also be available.

June 29 (10:30 a.m.) The Dawt Church of Christ will host a Centennial Celebration with a group photo of the congregation. Following the formal portion of the service, the congregation will gather in the pavilion behind the children for an old-fashioned “dinner on the grounds,” comfortably seated in the shade with a view of North Fork River. Following lunch, a singing will be held. All who have ever been associated with the Dawt congregation are invited to attend and bring a dish “of your best recipe.” The general public is welcome to any and all portions of the celebration, expected to last three to four hours.

June 29 (7 p.m.) Mean Mary will perform at the Yellow House Community Arts Center, 209 W. Trish Knight St. She will bring her banjo, guitar, fiddle, percussion and any other of her 11 instruments she can fit into her vehicle to perform songs across genres including roots, bluegrass, blues and folk.

June 30; July 7, 14, 21 (9 a.m.) West Plains Elks Lodge 2418, 3336 N. U.S. 63, hosts Bingo every Sunday. Nonmembers are welcome to play.

NEXT WEEK

July 4: Independence Day. All government offices and buildings will be closed, including the library. The Quill office will be closed. MSU-WP classes will not meet and offices will be closed.

July 4: The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Willow Springs Police Department, will host the second annual “I Ran from the Cops” 5K and SWAT challenge ahead of the traditional Fourth of July parade. Details for competitions and parade are online at www.wschamber.net.

July 6 (11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) The Mtn. View Alumni Association will hold its annual meeting in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 409 U.S. 60 in Mtn. View. Registration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by an invocation and meal. Tips will benefit the First Baptist Church Youth Group. A business meeting and visitation will take place from 1:30-3:30 p.m Speakers are needed for honor classes of 1969, 1964, 1959 and 1954. Officers are also needed. July 9-10: Ozarks Healthcare will offer its M*A*S*H (Medical Academy of Science and Health) Camp for youths in seventh through 12th grades.A two-day session for high school age students will be held July 9-10, and seventh- and eighth-graders will be able to participate in a single-day session July 11. July 9 (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) Janessa’s Lemonade Stand will be set up at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs. Youth entrepreneur Janessa began the enterprise as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her Great-Grandma Better, who would have been 89 on this day.

July 10 and 11 (8 a.m.-4 p.m.) Ozarka College will host a youth Aviation Camp for grades four through six on July 10 and seven through 12 on July 11. July 11 and 18 (4-6 p.m.) Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona will host Discover Nature: Fishing Lessons 1 and 2. Learn the parts and function of a spin cast fishing rood and real and how to cast safely and successfully, fasten basic tackle to a line and catch and handle fish properly. Then learn knotting and baiting techniques. Participation is for children ages 7 and older, accompanied by an adult. Equipment and instruction will be provided. Learn basic biological concepts and functions of Missouri native fit, plus their habitat and food webs. Then learn about using lures and understanding fishing regulations.
