Officials with the West Plains R-7 School District announce Dr. Joby Steele will take the reins at West Plains Middle School as the new principal for the 2024-2025 school year.

Steele is currently an assistant principal at the West Plains Elementary. He served as the Alton High School principal from 2013 to 2023. Before his position in Alton, he was a West Plains High School assistant principal from 2009 to 2012 and a West Plains Middle School assistant principal from 2008 to 2009.

He takes the role vacated by current middle school Dr. Donnie Miller, who is transitioning into the position of transportation director for the district. Current Transportation Director Lenny Eagleman is set to retire at the end of the school year.

Steele holds a Doctorate in Education Administration from Lindenwood University. He also has a Master of Education degree from William Woods University and a Bachelor of Science from Arkansas State University.

“Dr. Steele’s extensive educational leadership and deep understanding of the district is key to ensuring a seamless transition and sustained stability for our schools, making him an excellent choice for the position," said Dr. Wesley Davis, superintendent of schools.

Dr. Steele will begin his new role on July 1, 2024.
