Eminence man charged with statutory rape of 12-year-old

Posted

An Eminence man faces two felony counts of first-degree statutory rape after allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old girl acquainted with him.

Jarron I. Dickens, 21, is being held in the Shannon County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond—$250,000 on each of the two cases filed against him.

The charges stem from an investigation led by Shannon County Sheriff's Office Capt. Lisa Noble. According to court records, the investigation began after an adult friend of the victim reported the allegations on July 28 and brought the girl to the sheriff's department. The report indicated the alleged incidents occurred earlier that day.

Shannon County Prosecutor William Camm Seay filed the formal complaint and probable cause statement on July 28, and law enforcement served the arrest warrant later that afternoon.

Dickens is represented by attorney Lacon Marie Smith, who entered an appearance on his behalf on July 30 and subsequently filed a motion for discovery and a change of judge.

On Aug. 4, Associate Circuit Judge Sandra Brewer sustained the defense's motion for a change of judge. The cases were transferred to 37th Judicial Circuit Presiding Judge Steven Privette for judicial reassignment. Future court dates have yet to be scheduled.
