Extra trash pickup offered next week in Mtn. View

Posted

Mtn. View will have extra trash pickup Monday through Friday and brush pickup June 24 through 28, city officials announce.

For residents who currently have trash service, extra items will be picked up on their regular pickup days; businesses are excluded.

Items that will not be collected include hazardous waste such as asbestos, major demolition and renovation waste, and items piled onto trailers or trucks. Hazardous chemicals including paint, pesticides, herbicides, and antifreeze are also excluded from pickup.

Total refuse is limited to two yards, the equivalent of a level truck bed load.

Large items like furniture and appliances will be accepted, along with tires, car batteries and used motor oil.

Items should be separated as follows: regular refuse including extra bags or boxed trash; furniture, mattresses, wooden pallets and other large items; washers, dryers and all other metal and freon appliances; tires; car batteries; and used oil.

Recyclable items must be placed at the curb in blue recycling bags, available free at city hall, 126 Oak St.

For the protection of sanitation workers, all broken glass must be boxed and labeled, and small items must be bagged or boxed.

For brush pickup in June, tree limbs must be a maximum of 10 feet long and stacked parallel in an open area within 5 feet of the street.

Brush must not be stacked in alleyways and does not include boards or regular trash. Yard waste like bagged leaves and grass clippings must be placed in Bio-Bags, available for purchase at city hall for 75 cents each.

The city's brush dump is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday on East James Street for natural waste disposal (sticks, leaves, logs and stumps) at no charge.
