CANCER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP — George Fisher, a 2024 West Plains High School graduate, was recently awarded a summer fellowship to participate in the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Research program in Columbia. A sophomore at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., Fisher is double-majoring in chemistry and biology with a minor in health equities. At Ellis Fischel, he will work alongside medical oncology mentors on ongoing cancer research. The fellowship builds on Fisher's current research at Rhodes, where he investigates gene truncation methodologies for immuno-oncology applications. Fisher has earned honor roll status every semester at Rhodes and plans to attend medical school following graduation. He is the son of Heather and Chrys Fisher of West Plains.
