Quincy L. Collins, 28, Dora, has added five felony charges to a list of multiple felonies already filed in Howell County, many related to domestic assault.
The latest charges were filed after Collins allegedly butted his girlfriend in the face with his head on April 22, causing a bloody nose and a swollen, bruised eye.
West Plains Police Cpl. Brent McKemie reported he started an investigation into the incident on May 3 after speaking to the victim and observing a bruise on her left eye. The victim, after describing the incident to McKemie, showed him photos of the injury taken the day of the incident and three days later.
A child was asked by the officer if Collins had assaulted the victim before, and reportedly said weeks prior she heard the victim yelling, went to check on her and saw the victim’s nose was bleeding and she had the beginning of a black eye.
When he spoke to the suspect, McKemie said, Collins denied he hitting the victim and claimed she had been injured when she used her head to strike him in the face instead. The officer noted he didn't see any injuries on Collins.
He is charged with second-degree domestic assault, bond set at $10,000 cash or surety.
Officer Jesse Martin reported on May 5 Collins forcibly entered a home on Walker Street at various times and caused damage to a front door, window, sink and counter.
Four counts of first-degree burglary have been filed in that case. A complaint filed by Howell County Assistant Prosecutor Rizwan Ahad shows the incidents allegedly began at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday when Collins first entered the house while the victim was present, and he returned at about 3:45 and 6:15 a.m. that morning, again while the victim was in the house.
Ahad requested and was granted a no-bond warrant in the burglary case until Collins made a court appearance, pointing out he'd posted bond on a previous charge involving the same victim and a condition of that bond was not to have contact with the victim.
Bond was set at $10,000 when Collins made an appearance on May 6 and pleaded not guilty to both cases, according to court records.
He is to make his next appearance May 20 for a counsel status hearing on the burglary case before 37th Judicial Associate Circuit Court Judge R. David Ray. Court records show Collins is represented by Public Defender Thomas Flack in that case. In the domestic assault case, records show the May 20 counsel status hearing was canceled Monday during a court appearance made by Collins and Public Defender Micah Jones and a preliminary hearing set for June 4.
As of Thursday morning, online records showed Collins remains in custody.
Collins has five other unresolved felony cases filed since 2022 in Howell County. He is scheduled for trial on Aug. 15 for the first, a charge of stealing property valued at more that $750; the remainder of charges were filed relating to incidents that allegedly started in July of last year.
On July 2, he was charged with third-degree domestic assault after reportedly punching his girlfriend in the eye, the charge filed in December with an Oct. 17 criminal setting. A few days later he allegedly pushed someone down stairs, causing the victim to have a broken arm and fractured wrist, and a charge of first-degree assault resulting in serious physical injury was filed. He is to go to trial for the latter case on Oct. 17, according to court records.
In March of this year Collins allegedly grabbed the neck of a victim, forced her to the ground, and brandished a knife during the altercation, resulting in charges of third-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He has an Oct. 17 criminal setting related to that case.
On July 15, another third-degree assault charge was filed after Collins allegedly forced a former spouse to the ground by grabbing her hair. A criminal setting was to have been held in that case on April 30 before 36th Circuit Judge Michael Pritchett in Howell County, but save for a notice of surrender filed Tuesday by Collins’ bond agent, there have been no updates to public court records in that case since the setting was scheduled. Pritchett was assigned by Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Russell following former Associate 37th Circuit Judge Donna Anthony’s recusal on her own motion in February, the records show. Anthony retired from the bench Feb. 29.
