Area cemetery meetings, cleanup dates set
Udall, Price, Mitchell Cemetery will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. May 23 at the cemetery grounds on O Highway in Ozark County. The public is welcome to attend. Donations for grounds upkeep are requested; checks may be made payable to Udall Price Cemetery and mailed to Eddie Ellison, 6549 State Highway O, Udall, MO 65677.
The Homeland Cemetery Association will meet at 10 a.m. May 23, at the cemetery on County Road 6310, located about 6 miles west of West Plains off of U.S. 160.
Anyone interested in the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds is encouraged to attend. Donations will be accepted at the meeting or can be mailed to Melva Johnson, 4163 State Route AB, West Plains, MO 65775.
Decoration Day services will be held May 24 at Free Union Cemetery on County Road 7130 near Leota. A potluck lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting and benefit fundraising auction.
The annual meeting for Evergreen Cemetery will begin at 2 p.m. May 31, following a short program. Anyone interested in Evergreen Cemetery, located about 6 miles south of West Plains on County Road 8530, is urged to attend. Upkeep is funded entirely by contributions; checks may be mailed to Evergreen Cemetery, 10950 State Route 17, West Plains, MO 65775. Road to Remember time change announced
Organizers have announced a time change for the "Road to Remember" Veteran Memorial Banners reveal ceremony scheduled for Memorial Day on the front lawn of the West Plains Civic Center. The event will now begin at 11 a.m.
The personalized banners, which will hang throughout downtown beginning Memorial Day, were created as a Girl Scout Gold Award project in partnership with the city and AMVETS Post 98. The tribute ceremony will feature a mayoral proclamation, project remarks and refreshments provided by AMVETS, followed by an opportunity to view the displays.
