KS man held on $25K cash-only bond in Shannon Co. homicide-related case

A man from Olathe, Kan., has been charged with receiving stolen property after allegedly being found in possession of a vehicle belonging to the apparent victim of a Shannon County homicide.

Kelly G. Marks, 41, is held on $25,000 cash-only bond after being taken into custody Sunday in Kansas City, Mo., as the driver of the victim's vehicle. Court records indicate Marks was placed on a 24-hour hold at the time of his arrest by Kansas City police officers.

Cpl. Paul Wells of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control, in a statement submitted to Shannon County prosecutors, reported that the Shannon County Sheriff’s Department requested the patrol’s assistance in a death investigation Friday.

The deceased is described as a white male found at a home; while investigators were reportedly able to identify him, the victim's name and address have been redacted from Wells' statement in publicly available records.

The body of the deceased was reportedly found in a driveway to the man's home, with apparent "blood-producing" injuries to his torso and head.

Two expended .380-caliber casings were found near the body and the scene showed indications there had been a burglary, with a door to the house left open and property inside the house that appeared as if it had been scattered during a search for items to steal, Wells reported.

The victim's vehicle, described as a green 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe in a complaint filed Monday by Shannon County Prosecutor William Seay, had been reported stolen in law enforcement databases by the Shannon County Sheriff's Department.
