Local author Tara Shahan, writing under the pen name B. Eleanor Angle, has released her debut children’s picture book, "Baylor’s Big Adventures: Papa and Baylor Go Fishing."

The story follows a young boy named Baylor and his grandfather, Papa, as they spend a quiet day fishing along a river. Throughout the trip, the characters discover that the most meaningful adventures stem from the people sharing the experience rather than the catch of the day.

Shahan noted that the story is deeply personal, with characters inspired by real people and moments that reflect the laughter, wisdom and faith present in her own life.

“I grew up in the foothills of Appalachia, where creeks curled through the woods and family shaped so much of who I am,” Shahan said. “Those roots — and the people who poured love and encouragement into me — became the foundation for these stories.”

A central theme of the book encourages readers to “tuck” God’s Word into their hearts, weaving a reminder for children and families to carry their faith into everyday life. The book is designed to encourage families to slow down and find adventure in everyday moments shared together, rather than relying solely on big trips or special occasions.

"Papa and Baylor Go Fishing" is the first installment in the "Baylor’s Big Adventures" series. Shahan plans to release additional stories exploring themes of faith, kindness and family connection. Each book includes a Scripture verse and a simple prayer to help families carry the story's message beyond the final page.

The book may be checked out or placed on hold at the West Plains Public Library. It can also be purchased through major online retailers or by visiting the author's website, www.baylorsbigadventures.com, which features a cabin-inspired storybook setting to expand upon the book's themes.
