Judi Colter is Mtn. View’s new alderwoman

Mtn. View city council members on Tuesday approved the appointment of a former council member to fill a vacancy left in the East Ward by former Alderman Murray Anderson, whose resignation was accepted at the regular monthly meeting held Dec. 12 .

The appointment was made and approved during a special session of the council called for the occasion. The appointee, Judi Colter will take Anderson's seat until it expires in April, having been named by Mayor John Krasuski and approved by East Ward Alderman Bud Vines and West Ward Alderwoman Brenda Colter. West Ward Alderman Lindell Vandevort was absent from the meeting.

The seat will be up for election April 2; anyone interested in filing as a candidate for that council seat is invited to inquire within the Mtn. View City Hall, 120 N. Oak St.

Judi Colter is the second to be appointed to a seat on the council in a month; on Nov. 28, Vines was tapped to fill a seat vacated by East Ward Alderman Steven Sills, citing personal reasons, during the Nov. 14 regular meeting.

After Judi Colter was sworn in, the only other business on the agenda was a resolution to adopt the fiscal year 2024 budget, typically reviewed and voted on by city councils this time of year. Brenda Colter and Vines voted in the affirmative, with Judi Colter abstaining.

Howell County Commission to hold special session Friday

Howell County Commissioners will meet in a special session at 10 a.m. Friday to approve accounts payable.

It is the only item on the agenda for the commission’s last meeting of 2023, set to take place in the conference room on the second floor of the Howell County Office Building, 35 Court Square in West Plains. Guests present will also be recognized.

Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday to approve payroll and tax adjustments, and to open sealed bids for Road & Bridge items to be considered for purchase between Feb. 1, 2024 and Jan. 31, 2025. Meetings were also held with a representative of the sheriff’s office regarding a grant for COVID-related confinement at the county jail, and with County Clerk Kelly Waggoner for an election efficiency grant.

The commission typically meets each Monday and Thursday. The public is welcome.
