Mo. Humanities rep to visit West Plains; 2 programs offered

Posted

Missouri Humanities Executive Director Ashley Beard-Fosnow will present two programs July 14 in West Plains.

The events, sponsored by West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) will feature two sessions in Dogwood 1 at the West Plains Civic Center, both open to area nonprofit representatives and the public.

From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 14, the first program offered, “MO Humanities 101,” will be a crash course workshop in Missouri Humanities programming for the public, according to the council. The presentation will cover Humanities grants programs, an online toolkit, digital programs and related offerings of interest.

Following, from 4:30 to 5:30, a listening session will be held to give organizations and individuals from the community an opportunity to share their input.

According to event organizers, the humanities is the study of how people connect to the human experience through history, culture and traditions.

"The Humanities allow us to explore stories from people who came before us, appreciate places that have changed with time, and learn from past ways of thinking in order to form a brighter future for generations to come,” reads the Missouri Humanities website, www.MOhumanities.org.

“Missouri Humanities programs remember the past by exploring Missouri’s Heritage, sharing Veterans stories, preserving Native American and Civil War history, and cataloging archaeological artifacts and sites,” it continues. “We focus on the future by supporting statewide environmental sustainability, providing educational opportunities to adults, and promoting literacy development for youth throughout the state."

Missouri Humanities has supported a variety of programs and activities in the West Plains region, say council members.
