MSU-WP purchases former shoe factory building that housed the Grizzly Lofts

Posted

Members of the Missouri State University Board of Governors approved the purchase of the building that houses the Grizzly Lofts residence hall for $4.5 million during a special closed session meeting on Nov. 15 in Springfield.

In an announcement made Tuesday, officials said the university will take ownership of the building, located on Missouri Avenue, immediately following the closing date of the purchase. All students residing on campus will move into the facility for the 2024 spring semester.

Students who would normally have been housed in the Grizzly Lofts have been staying in hotels paid for by Missouri State University-West Plains due to the facility’s closure.

The facility includes an onsite dining hall, which will be open to the public and managed by Great Western Dining Service of Tipton, a community in the Jefferson City metro area.

Other amenities include a fitness center, computer lab, private and group study rooms, free internet access, a community room with TV, video games and ping pong, a laundry facility, and a sand volleyball court outside, said officials. It is also equipped with security cameras and limited access entries to help ensure student safety.
