Posted

A woman from Mtn. Home, Ark., drowned Saturday afternoon near Dawt Mill in Ozark County, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Julia M. Monroe, 63, got off an inner tube, went under the water for a lengthy amount of time and was pulled out by a nearby swimmer, according to Sgt. A.R. Johnson with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs.

The incident reportedly happened at about 1:25 p.m. Saturday on the North Fork of the White River, about a half-mile south of the Dawt Mill bridge.

Johnson added that Monroe was not using a life jacket. She was pronounced dead by Dr. Curtis Horstman at 2:13 p.m. at Ozarks Healthcare.

It is the third drowning in the nine-county Troop G area thus far in 2024, compared to five in the same time frame last year.

Johnson was assisted at the scene by Cpl. J.R. Roberts and the Ozark County Sheriff's Department.
