Military tribute banners honoring local veterans and active-duty service members are on display along First and Elm streets in downtown Mtn. View.
The program was brought to Mtn. View through Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 3009 as a way to publicly recognize local men and women who have served, or continue to serve, in the military.
The Military Tribute Banner Program is a nationwide initiative that displays personalized banners featuring service members’ names, photos and branch of service. The banners are traditionally displayed from Memorial Day through Veterans Day.
Banners purchased by family members this year will remain on display through Veterans Day. More banners are expected to be added next year. Those interested in being placed on a waiting list may email vfwaux3009@yahoo.com.
VFW Auxiliary 3009 also led fundraising efforts for the banner brackets, which were donated to the City of Mtn. View. The auxiliary thanked those who contributed to the cost of the brackets, including Mtn. View Community Betterment, West Plains Bank & Trust, Simmons Bank, Gather Independent Insurance, Cindy Pirch, Carolyn Howell and Matthew James.
The auxiliary also thanked the City of Mtn. View and the city’s electric crew for installing the banners downtown.
“These banners are more than decorations — they are powerful reminders of our local hometown heroes who have served our country with honor,” said Mtn. View Chamber of Commerce Director Tanya Miller. “We are proud to display them in the heart of Mtn. View.”
