The Mtn. View Chamber of Commerce is partnering with local community organizations to host the Family Freedom Fest on Saturday.
The daylong celebration features a variety of family-friendly events, food and entertainment, culminating in a fireworks display at the Mtn. View Airport.
Daytime Schedule
Festivities begin in the morning and continue through the day around town:
- 11 a.m.: A watermelon eating contest, sponsored by Ozark Mtn. Leasing, will be held at Wayside Park.
- 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: The city of Mtn. View is sponsoring a free pool day at the city pool on East Fifth Street. A car show will also take place in the Southwest Baptist University parking lot during this time.
- 11 a.m. until supplies last: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3009 will host a cookout at Wayside Park, and a Rotary Hog Roast will be held at Flood's Ice House Alley, located east of the library on Oak Street.
- Noon to 8 p.m.: Americana hats, apparel and souvenir vendors will be set up at the Community Center, 125 E. First St. Holy Roll'n Rolled Ice Cream and Expresso Yourself Coffee/Shaved Ice trucks will also be stationed at the Community Center.
- 1 to 5 p.m.: Face painting will be available at the Community Center.
- 6 p.m.: The Stars, Stripes & Small Town Pride Parade will begin. Parade lineup starts at 5 p.m. at the pool.
- 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Following the parade, live music by Brandy Lee will be performed at the gazebo by the pool. - Dark: The holiday events will wrap up with a fireworks show at the airport on Airport Road just off South Pine Street.
City Closures and Notices
In observance of the holiday, Mtn. View City Hall and the sanitation department will be closed on Friday. Friday's trash pickup route will be combined with Monday's scheduled pickup.
City officials are also reminding residents who shoot off their own fireworks for the holiday to pick up all spent fireworks materials and place them in the trash.
