Nadine's Homemade Ice Cream named a top statewide dessert destination

Posted

A West Plains sweet spot has been recognized as one of the state's top culinary destinations in the 2026 Best of Rural Missouri Readers’ Choice Awards.

Nadine’s Homemade Ice Cream, 675 Missouri Ave., earned the Editors’ Choice honor in the "Dessert or Ice Cream" category of the annual contest, conducted by Rural Missouri magazine.

Now in its 23rd year, the contest drew nearly 40,000 votes across 14 categories. The awards highlight standout spots to eat, shop, stay and explore across the state, with a heavy emphasis on hometown restaurants and hidden gems. Winners were announced in the magazine’s April issue.

“Each year, this contest becomes a roadmap to the places Missourians truly love — from small-town cafes to must-visit destinations,” said Sara Schafer, Rural Missouri editor. “What makes it special is that these winners aren’t chosen by critics, but by the people who live, work and travel these roads every day. It’s an authentic snapshot of what makes rural Missouri shine.”
