Norwood pair, Licking woman killed in recent crashes

A 78-year-old Norwood man and a 77-year-old Norwood woman suffered fatal injuries in a single-vehicle crash at 11:14 a.m. Thursday at 135 East Rolla St. in Hartville in Wright County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Cpl. S.J. Crewse, with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported a westbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by the man rapidly accelerated, jumped a curb, went through a parking lot and struck a concrete building.

Neither occupant wore a seat belt, the report shows. Wright County Coroner Ben Hurtt pronounced both dead at the scene at 11:18 a.m.

Crewse was assisted at the scene by Cpl. K.R. Waters with the patrol's Major Crash Investigation Unit.

Earlier in the week, a 64-year-old Licking woman suffered fatal injuries in a rollover crash at 10:25 a.m. Monday on VV Highway, 2 miles southeast of Licking in Texas County.

Tpr. N.B. Poynter reported an eastbound 2003 Jeep Wrangler driven by the woman traveled off the left side of the road, struck a tree and overturned.

The driver was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. She was pronounced dead at 10:46 a.m. by Dr. Schafer of Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston,.

Poynter was assisted at the scene by Crewse, the Licking Police Department and the Licking Fire Department.

These incidents mark the 15th, 16th and 17th traffic fatalities for the year in the Troop G area, compared to 16 at this time last year.

The patrol no longer publicizes the names of crash victims as of November 2024.
