OHRC to host 'Enjoying the Rivers of the Ozarks' presentation

Posted

Officials with the Ozarks Heritage Research Center at Missouri State University-West Plains will host a presentation titled "Enjoying the Rivers of the Ozarks" at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The free event is open to the public and will be held at the OHRC, inside the Garnett Library at 304 W. Trish Knight St. in West Plains. Sponsored by the OHRC and the West Plains Council on the Arts, the evening will feature refreshments and a presentation by Marcus Allen.

Allen will briefly discuss how rivers physically and culturally shape the Ozarks before shifting to practical ways to enjoy the waterways and highlighting easy access points for all to explore.

Allen is the creator of the "Floating the Ozarks" Facebook page, which he has run for just over two years, amassing more than 113,000 followers. The page shares ways to experience the region's rivers, history and nature.

Originally from southern Indiana, Allen moved to the Ozarks in 1995 to pastor a church and quickly fell in love with floating, fishing, backpacking, hunting and finding new ways to explore the region.
