Ozark Action, headquartered in West Plains, will receive $12,000 through a grant program offered by Great Southern Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.
The money will support the Housing Choice Voucher, or Section 8, program administered through the Howell County Public Housing Authority, helping low-income families afford safe rental housing.
The grant is part of $400,000 in combined grants awarded to 23 Missouri nonprofits through the Member Impact Fund. Great Southern Bank contributed $100,000, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines matched that amount 3-to-1 with an additional $300,000.
“These are strong community partners whose work aligns directly with what the Member Impact Fund is designed to support,” said Andrea Brady, community outreach and development manager for Great Southern Bank. “We carefully considered organizations across our footprint, and this partnership with FHLB Des Moines lets us extend that support even further.”
In addition to Ozark Action, COPE in Lebanon and Elevate Branson each received $20,000. COPE will use its grant to help cover rent, utilities, food, personal care items, transportation and legal advocacy costs for survivors of domestic violence. Elevate Branson will use its grant to support construction of tiny homes in the Branson area.
Other grants were awarded to nonprofits in Joplin, Columbia, Springfield, St. Louis and Kansas City. The program supports organizations focused on affordable housing, community development and economic opportunity.
“The Member Impact Fund is designed to help our members champion the organizations that make a real difference in their communities,” said Kris Williams, president and chief executive officer of FHLB Des Moines. “By partnering with our members, we’re able to multiply resources and support their vital work as they continue to strengthen opportunities for the people they serve.”
