Quill receives regional VFW Auxiliary media recognition
A Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary Communications Award has been given to the West Plains Daily Quill by VFW Auxiliary State Historian Mary Thurman, right. Presented to Quill Publisher Abby Hess, left, the certificate recognizes the newspaper’s consistent coverage of veterans issues. The citation reads: “In grateful recognition of your role in providing outstanding news coverage for the VFW Auxiliary. On behalf of Auxiliary members everywhere, thank you for publicizing the work we’re doing for veterans and their families in our community.” The VFW Auxiliary provides regional volunteer support services through programs like the “Buddy” Poppy fundraiser alongside broader efforts to connect veterans and family members to services like housing, healthcare and scholarships. A new Auxiliary chapter was formally established with a ceremony on April 23; watch future issues of the Quill for more information.
